I may be an early retiree, enjoying life in Spain, but I am definitely a late developer. In between the two lockdowns in 2020, I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in the UK with my extremely talented granddaughter (who was 16 yrs at the time). We spent the time drawing and painting, trying new things to help her expand her art mediums and skills. I had never painted or drawn anything worth looking at, but I so enjoyed myself that I booked in for the local art classes in Oliva upon return. After a few months of learning the ropes, I have never looked back. Every painting brings a new confidence and enjoyment, and I often stop and stare at people when they say, 'Are you the artist?' I still don't believe they are talking to me.
After trying a few different styles and mediums, I discovered a passion for oil painting with a palette knife. I love the thickness of the paint, the way the paint slides around the canvas, how a few strokes can change the colours and mix them up, and how easy it is to go back and change things if you are not happy with the result.
